BIG NUMBERS!

In math, we are exploring numbers 0 through 99. We are learning that there are many ways to show a number. By using counters and organizers, tens and ones, we explore place value.

To keep the + and – facts fresh in our minds, we will continue to review basic math facts.

The unit on money is fast approaching. You may wish to introduce your child to 1, 5, 10 and 25 cents, especially if your child has had little experience with them.

Reading Corner

We are at the halfway point of our reading series. In Book 4 of the McGraw-Hill Reader, we are introduced to long vowels. We are working with long a, i and o vowels. The magic e can change the sound of the vowel. Words like cap, kit and not become cape, kite, and note. We are also adding endings s, es, ed, and ing to words. It is important to read and reread stories to increase word recognition and fluency.
